What is Back Pain?

Back pain is an all too familiar problem that can range from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain that leaves you incapacitated. It can come on suddenly from an accident, a fall, or lifting something too heavy , or it can develop slowly, perhaps as the result of age-related changes to the spine. Regardless of how it happens or how it feels, you know it when you have it.

Signs and Symptoms of Backache?

Backache can appear abruptly after a physical activity or may develop slowly. Usually, most of the types of muscular back pain go away within a week or two of their onset, but sometimes it may last more.

Pain or Stiffness anywhere along your spine, from the base of the neck to the hips. Limitation in movement of the spine especially bending forward and leaning back gives lot of pain.

Although pain can occur anywhere in the back, the majority of backaches occur in the lower back, which is generally called as lumbago.

Sharp, localized pain in the neck, upper back, or lower back, especially after lifting heavy objects or engaging into any other strenuous activity.

Tense spasm of the muscles surrounding the spine and causing a stiff back.

A pain may be in the middle of the back or in the lower back, especially after sitting or standing for long period of time. The pain may even spread to both sides of the waist and the hips.

  How to Treat Backache?

There are several ways to cure back pain muscle spasms without the use of medication.
Supporting the back muscles is important. This can be done by buying a good, firm mattress and by wearing a sturdy back brace after the spasms and while lifting heavy objects.

Ice is another popular treatment. Ice should be used in the first three days of spasms to help the swelling go down. Care should be taken so that more damage is not done to the muscle. The cold pack should be wrapped in a towel and not placed directly to the skin. After the swelling has gone down, heat packs should be used to sooth the muscles. Moist heat is best because it help avoid dehydration.

One popular way to get rid of back pain muscle spasms is the use of herbs. Many people have found that cranberry pills is great for back pain related to kidney problems because it curse the kidney infection that cause the back pain muscle spasms.

To cure the degenerative problems that causes back pain, many use glucosamine, calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium.
