What is Chitosan?
Chitosan is a form of dietary
fiber that most commonly comes from a complex carbohydrate
called chitin. This carbohydrate, chitin, is derived from
the hard outer shell of marines animals like shellfish,
squid, shrimp and crabs.
Health Benefits
While Chitosan has confirmed
results related to weight loss, it does offer a few benefits
for people who are not interested in losing weight. Chitosan
has been linked to having a positive effect on lowering
cholesterol and ongoing use suggests that people who take
Chitosan for a significant period of time may improve good
cholesterol levels.
It may also prevent harmful
bacteria from building up in the intestines; this is
significant for those who may be at risk for colon cancer
and related diseases and conditions.
Side Effects
Because it prevents the absorption of fats, remember to take
it only with water soluble derivative substance and avoid
taking it with fat soluble vitamins like vitamins (A,D,E,K)
and beta carotene.
It may also inhibit the absorption of fat
soluble medications. |
